An archival print / original artwork by Ed Gendron
This is a limited edition (of 50 total) by Ed Gendron. When they're gone - they're just gone.
This picture is part of an yet-unnamed series. I loved the idea of finding a box of vintage photos from some other reality or universe. I began this series in oil painting. But it has expanded to digital photography and found images as well.
This photo used to simply be a woman proudly her child. I've dramatically reworked and hand colored it.
This artwork was originally inspired by a Tom Waits quote, "We are buried beneath the weight of information, which is being confused with knowledge; quantity is being confused with abundance and wealth with happiness. We are monkeys with money and guns." Despite the tragic implications of this quote, I really do believe that people are capable of great things ...but also, I DO know what he means. The struggle to make peace with both human's best and worst qualities, are at the very heart of this work. Somehow the mother is able to smile and adoringly gaze upon her child despite its many flaws. Both have put down their weapons just for this moment, which is captured for all time in this family photo.
If you like this series, then check out some of my other "Pop Surrealist" photos/paintings in this series. As the Talking Heads advised us "Stop Making Sense".
I'm offering two different sizes, choose Small or medium size.
